Chapter 17
âTUCKER,â Sam yelled loudly over the crowd of women.
âWhat the fuck?â Tucker ducked under the bar and sprinted toward Sam. She quickly wrapped her in her arms and picked Sam up off her feet. âI donât believe youâre here!â She set her back down.
Sam grabbed Tuckerâs exposed bicep. âWhat the hell are you lifting these days? A freaking tank or something?â
Tucker smiled broadly. âSomething like that.â
Sam shook her head. âDamn, girl, youâre cut.â She took a step back and ran her eyes over Tuckerâs body. Her broad shoulders bulged from her tight black tank.
Tucker put her hands on the waistband of her camouflaged pants. âYeah, well, I was bored when you left so I had to find something to do with my time.â
Sam laughed loudly. âIâm sure the ladies like it.â
âNah. Theyâre all still pining for you.â
âHa!â Sam slapped her arm and then immediately began to rub the sting from her palm. âDonât give me that shit. They hardly looked around you to see me standing behind you. And now, girl, they wonât be able to look around you.â Sam pretended to have difficulty peering around Tucker.
âYouâre so damn crazy. Come on. Come talk to me before the music starts. âCause when it does, I wonât be able to hear shit. Iâll buy ya a drink.â
âYou expecting more than this tonight?â Sam maneuvered herself through the women gathered at the bar.
âHell yes. The lezzies will be insane tonight. Moâs back for one night and one night only. If you book her, they will come.â
Sam stopped dead fast and turned to walk away.
Tucker grabbed her arm. âHold up, sister. Donât be like that.â
âTuck, Iâm not in the mood at all to see her. Iâve got absolutely no filter nor any patience for her.â
âDonât think I remember you having much of either one of those before where she was concerned.â Tucker pulled her arm to guide her closer to the bar. âCome on. Iâve not seen you in what, two years? You owe me a drink,â she yelled over her shoulder.
Sam dragged her feet behind. âI thought you said you were buying.â
âI am.â
âIn that case, make it a double.â
âHold up one second. Sit here. Let me get my buddy over there to catch the bar so we can talk for a minute.â Tucker pointed to an empty stool for Sam. âWhat ya drinking these days?â
âBasically alcohol. Any and all kinds. Tonight, letâs do a rum and coke.â Sam sat on the stool against the wall of the far corner of the bar. This would be a good spot for the night. It was secluded and hidden enough not to be noticed. She didnât want to see anyone from her past, especially Mo. âOf all nights, why does she have to be here tonight? I tell you, Tuck, Iâm so over this visit.â
âHey!â Tuck dumped several ice cubes into a drinking glass. âI take offense to that.â
Sam pinched the bridge of her nose. âGirl, Iâm sorry. Of course Iâm happy to see you.
